The Alaska Airlines Visa Signature Credit Card is a good card for light spenders. It offers new cardholders a signup bonus of 30,000 bonus miles if you spend least $1,000 on your Alaska Airlines Credit Card within 90 days of opening your account opening.
Plus, if you spend at least $1,000 in the first 90 days, you’ll also qualify for a free companion ticket the first year your account is open. That annual companion ticket will offset the card’s $75 annual fee, so the card will basically pay for itself. And, every year thereafter you’ll receive another companion ticket after your account anniversary. You can redeem your Alaska Mileage Plan miles for over 900 destinations around the world where Alaska Airlines flies and on more than 15 global airline partners.
Limited Rewards
While you will earn a free companion ticket each year, there are limited rewards on your purchases. You’ll earn 1 mile per $1 spent on most purchases made with the Alaska Air Credit Card. This is about the same as most rewards cards on the market today.
There are only two types of purchases which will earn you a higher rate on Alaska Air’s credit card. Cardholders will earn 3 points per $1 spent through Alaska Airlines and Virgin America, and up to 5 points per $1 on dining at restaurants included in their “Mileage Plan”.
Plus, you’ll benefit from free checked bags for you and your traveling companions (up to six people) when you purchase your Alaska Airlines airfare with your Alaska Airlines Visa Card.
Unlike other cards, the Alaska Air Visa Signature Credit Card does not offer cardholders an introductory 0% APR, or even a low APR. You’ll get the ‘regular rate’, dependent upon your credit rating. The range varies from 13.89% to over 19.14%. So, if you have good credit, you’ll probably want to look elsewhere for a travel card.
Perks of the card included earning unlimited miles and travel with no blackout dates. Plus, there are no foreign transaction fees, so the card is great for those who travel internationally.
Who is the Card For?
If you travel a great deal, the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature® credit card may be a great fit for you. The fee is offset by the free companion ticket. Your first checked bag is free, plus the first checked bag of your companions as long as you travel on Alaska Airlines and you’ve purchased your tickets with your Alaska Airlines Signature card.
However, if you don’t fly often, it may not be the best choice for you. Additionally, if you fly a variety of airlines, the Alaska Airlines card may not pay off, either. Those who travel extensively on Alaska Airlines will see their reward miles accumulate quickly. Take a closer look at their Signature Visa Card and sign up today!
